I've just made Batch #4 for the season, the expiry date is June 2024

Place the bottle in your fridge as soon as it reaches you.

Keep in the fridge and use within 6 weeks of opening it.

Freeze in ice blocks & keep in freezer if you wish to extend the 'best before' date.

The Elderberry Syrup is a wonderful boon to have around for when coughs, colds, sore throats and flu strike.

Even when everyone is well, it is excellent for supporting and optimizing immune system functioning.

In our house, our favourite way to drink it is a few inches in a mug with hot water added - a gorgeous and soothing warm drink.

Sweetened with natural raw honey and a little Glycerol to help preserve it, this cordial tastes delicious which is what you want when you are trying to persuade little ones to take it!

This year's batch of Elderberry Syrup is safe for pregnancy, breastfeeding and children over 12 months.

It contains Elderberries, Astragalus root, Albizzia bark, Cinnamon bark, Cloves, Echinacea Root, food-grade glycerol and natural raw honey.

Elderberries (Sambuccus nigra): anti-viral, immune enhancing and anti-oxidant, suitable for children, helpful for influenza, the common cold and viral infections.

Astragalus membranaceus: enhances immunity, prevents infection, strengthening adaptogen, lowers blood pressure, good for fatigue and debility and for post-viral syndromes (the exhaustion and weakness following a major viral infection). Not advisable during the ACUTE stage of an infection.

Albizzia lebbeck - an anti-allergy and anti-spasmodic herb, helpful for croup and asthma.

Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum aromatica) - traditional remedy for healing cold, cough, flu and sore throats.

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) - anti-microbial actions, helpful to assist recovery from colds.

Echinacea Root - immune boosting, anti-inflammatory.

This cordial is suitable during breastfeeding and for children over the age of 12 months (Babies under 12 months should avoid raw honey.)

How to use:
Take 10-15 mls in a little water, 3 times daily until bottle is used up.

Water can be hot or cold.

Keep it in the fridge and use it up within 6 weeks.

Can be mixed with a little gelatine to make jelly or “gummy bears”. I use Great Lakes gelatin.

It's also perfect for making icy-poles.

Freezing the syrup in ice cube trays is a great way to extend the short shelf life (no preservative - right!?). When you want a drink, pop out a cube, add hot water - et voila.

MAKE YOUR OWN SYRUP:

I have included an option to buy your own dried whole Elderberries if you would like to have a go at making your own Elderberry Syrup at home.

The recipe calls for 120g Elderberries, to which you add 500 ml water. This make 250-300 ml cordial depending on how much you allow the water to reduce when you boil the elderberries.

The Elderberry Syrup contains no preservative other than the Glycerol, and needs to travel from my fridge to yours in the shortest time possible, so:

I am one of those people who think that anything that is good for you tastes gross but I must say I absolutely love Julie's elderberry syrup! Is yummy either cold or hot! Very soothing.

A delicious, dried berry - we just make tea with it.
The kids *love* it warm in the evening before bed. Naturally sweet, soothing and warming. Also seems to help sore throats and cold symptoms for us.
