These nutritious herbs are rich in anti-oxidants including bioflavonoids such as Rutin, which reduces swelling and inflammation and improves the integrity of vein walls and strengthens blood vessels.

The VV-ease compress herbs contain:

Calendula (Calendula officinalis)  - traditionally used to ease varicose veins, this superb healer also has anti-inflammatory properties and protects and moisturises the skin.

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) -  another excellent healer, containing allantoin for cell repair and is an emollient, soothing and protecting tissues. Also astringent and anti-oxidant.

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) - with emollient, astringent and vulnerary actions, this healing herb reduces swelling and inflammation of the capillaries.

Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) - rich in tannins & saponins which are anti-inflammatory, tones the blood vessels, improves micro-vascular circulation & reduces swelling. 

Plantain (Plantago lanceolate) - another vulnerary (healing) herb also containing anti-inflammatory allantoin which heals cells. Used for skin conditions including haemorrhoids and varicosities.

Rose petals - soothing and sweet smelling.

Shepherd's Purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) - astringent and healing.

Yarrow (Achellia millefolium) - astringent, analgesic, vulnerary and anti-inflammatory, reduces pain & swelling of veins.

Witchhazel (Hamamelis virginiana) - skin tonic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, also used to heal haemorrhoids.

 
How to use the compress herbs:

Take about 25g - a good handful - of the herbs and place into a large jug, like a Pyrex jug.

Pour on about 25 ml of hot water from the kettle.

Cover and steep for about 10 minutes.

Then strain through a normal tea strainer.

The herbal liquid can be added to your bath or sitz bath.

Or place soft muslin cloths in the herbal liquid, fold, and apply to the area needing relief.

Repeat as desired.

For cold compresses, cool the herbal liquid before making up your compresses.
